How to Organize an Event

Many people want to organize benefit events to help. Here are some things to keep in mind:

  1. Decide who you are helping and giving proceeds to. This can be for residential relief or studio relief. You can also decide to give 50% to residential relief and 50% to studio relief. It's up to you, but deciding in advance is important.
  2. Clearly communicate what the funds are going toward on your flyers, emails, posters, media listings, etc.... People like to know how their contribution will help. For example, "proceeds will be used for LAVA House studio relief" or "proceeds will be donated to LAVA House residential relief".
  3. Communicate with us about the details of your event, so we can list it on this site. Contact Aron Conaway (502-758-8338) with questions, and email details to Aron here: aronconaway@hotmail.com

  • Many THANK YOUS to Evan Billiter, who heard about our situation from Alabama, contacted us to find out what we need, and then threw an event for us. Evan and his friends use a space called the Lowe Mill to as an environment similar to the LAVA House concept . They have an art group in their building too, called the Flying Monkey Arts Collective . Evan pulled together several great bands and asked for tools and supplied from the other artists, and then bought some more with the funds from the show. Then all by himself, he delivered the stuff to the LAVA artists.

It is truly inspiring to have someone from another city act so selflessly and work so hard to help. Evan ,Lowe Mill, Flying Monkies.... Thank you so much!. Everyone enjoyed claiming stuff to get them going again. Hopefully a creative relationship will come out of this all when the ashes settle.
